In December 2016 the S.N. Goenka Vipassana Philippines, Inc. (local Vipassana Trust) has completed the payment for a 3 hectare property in Tiaong, Quezon province. Located 2.5 hours outside of Metro Manila (around 100 km), the property is beautifully set in an agricultural area with hilly terrain. There is an abundance of tropical fruit-bearing trees (coconut, mango, banana, rambutan, etc.), and there is a creek that acts as a natural boundary. This rural area provides a peaceful atmosphere, which is ideal for learning meditation. This will be the new site for Dhamma Phala.

On January 29, 2017, a 1-day course was held in the old site in Sico Farm, Dasmarinas, Cavite, which is the last course for this location. Since 2010 courses have been held here which belongs to an old student who generously allowed the local Vipassana Trust to use her family’s mango grove. The prefabricated structures were made to last for only 3 years, and have been in use for the past 6 years already. The flooring of the structures are now deemed unsafe for students. Therefore, the Trust has decided to cancel the 10-day courses for 2017, and to move the re-usable panels/walls to the newly acquired property. Moving the structures to the new site will allow for 10-Day courses to resume, since water and electricity are readily available. While the design for the permanent center is being drawn up, the local trust is faced with the challenges of finding a suitable Property Manager, as well as a Project Manager for the construction phase. In May 2017, the Center Development Committee visited Tiaong (See photo). The volunteers in this committee are currently drawing up the masterplan.

All Courses Are Run Solely On A Donation Basis.

All expenses are met by donations from OLD STUDENTS ONLY  which have  completed a course and experienced the benefits of Vipassana, wish to give others the same opportunity.

Neither the Teacher nor the assistant teachers receive remuneration; they and those who serve the courses volunteer their time.

Thus Vipassana is offered free from commercialisation.

Dhamma is growing in the Philippines! With this, Vipassana Meditation Philippines is purchasing new land to further spread Dhamma in the country.

Help Us Build The First Permanent Vipassana Center In The Philippines

After a 10 year search, Dhamma Phala, the Vipassana Philippines centre, has found its final destination.

As you may have heard, we built a temporary centre in a mango grove belonging to an old student. She kindly let us stay there because renting retreat centres are very expensive in the Philippines and so it made financial sense to build a temporary centre. But now we have to leave and we found a 3 ha place in Tiaong, a 2.5 hour drive south of Manila in Quezon province. The place was designed as a clinic so it already contains 2 large Nipa houses (local building style) with 4 rooms and attached bathrooms, a solid house and a water tower. Water and electricity connections are already there. Plenty of coconut and other fruit bearing trees give a pleasant climate and shade. It is situated above the surrounding land, with a wide circle of hills in the distance. Mt Banahaw, a local 'holy' mountain, is close by. By moving some of the prefab buildings that we have to the existing site and re-erecting them over there, it would take only a few months before we could start 10 day courses in the new location.

At 6 mil. PHP (approximately 135,000 USD) it is a very good deal, the best we found in the last 10 years of searching, even though land prices have been steadily rising. The payment consists of giving half the sum right away, and the rest by postdated cheques over an 18 month period.

We had to give 500,000 PHP (approximately 11,000 USD) as ‘earnest money’ since other buyers may be interested, which we will lose if we cannot come up with enough money to pay for the entire price.

We cannot make it without some help from Dhamma brothers and sisters. This is an outreach message. It is a great opportunity for you to participate in this endeavor. There are several ways to help:

  • With dana in the form of a lump sum or a loan.
  • With dana in the form of a commitment to contribute a certain amount regularly for the quarterly payments.

The cost of moving the temporary buildings, electricity and plumbing, is not included.

Below some impressions of the land and surroundings. More updates will be provided on our Facebook Page
